Player Saleem Ahmed Khan was born on the 8th June 1957 at Khurja, at U.P. (India), in a family of great musicians whose heritage goes back to the 11th century A.D. of MIR-AKASA lineage.

A well-known percussionist with an inborn talent, unremitting practise and creative urge Saleem Ahmed has his initial training at the age of 7, under his mentor-father late Ustad Ramzan Khan who was also a respected Tabla player of his time, late Masitullah Khan Saheb, grandfather of Saleem Ahmed was a renowned Tabla player of his time and was attached to the court of Sahanpur Maharaja at Buland Shahar (UP). Late Ustad Moula Bux Grand Father-in-law (Nana) was also a renowned Sarangi player of his time. Later Saleem Ahmed Khan got an intensive training in tabla under the able guidance of late Ustad Lateef Ahmed Khan of Delhi Gharana of Delhi Gharana. He also learnt the intricacies of the Tabla instrument from great masters like late Ustad Alla Rakha, late Ahmed Jaan Thirkhwa, late Pt. Samta Prasad.
